Manager Vs Leader

`Although this two terms has a big difference, but it has a big relationships. The manager provide leadership and leader perform management functions. But the manager don't have a unique skill which leader have.

In a certain organization or company managers and leaders are both needed. But plenty of leaders is a risk.





 A Manager position which is being designated by an authority. Being a manager it requires documents that will support in a certain position. It focus on goals, resources, organization structure.It was during the middle of our discussion of the topic" Manager vs Leader"a question was raised by one of our classmate " Is the President of the Philippines a leader or a manager?" and plenty of arguments has been raised, until Randy G. said that the Manager should be designated by an authority. Therefore I concluded that when a man/woman reaches the highest position (democratic country) he/she will be authorized by that position most from low level of people in a democratic country. Therefore we can consider our President of the Philippines as the Manager, although that our President is Manager but still he has the great characteristics of being a leader, " Mostly i hear from the news that our president always away from the country, and he was not able to  do his job in this country". and i think on this news our president just being a leader, because it was during the discussion of Mr. Dustin one of the characteristics of a leader is  " away from the organization" upon reaching to this characteristic of leader plenty of arguments has been raised and one of our classmate comment to this characteristic that a "leader is an anti- organization" again plenty of arguments has been raised, as remember Mr Pascual argued " No!!  the leader is not an anti - organization" because like daw Mr Bill Gates, Gates  the founder of Microsoft, Gates is a leader, he looks for plenty of ideas, and those ideas will forwarded to his different managers that manages his different organization under Microsoft.Let's move back to the President, although the president is on travel away from our country and he doesn't do his job on this country, he just being a leader because he look for any investors, ideas, and technology that will be helpful to his organization, just like Gates that was Mr. Pascual(our classmate) said, those ideas will be sent to different managers on this country which is the Cabinet Members who are the managers of the different organizations. Because the president thinks to his subordinates, which also the one of  the characteristic of being a leader, those investor that he invited to invest to this country will be able to help to his subordinates because it can give jobs to them. Can we be a leader or a manager? yes we can be a leader, we cannot be all a manager unless we will be authorized for that position. Functions
A manager performs all five functions of management.
Leader influences people to work willingly for group objectives.
Necessity
A manager is very essential to a concern.
A leader is required to create cordial relation between person working in and for organization.
Stability
It is more stable.
Leadership is temporary.
Mutual Relationship
All managers are leaders.
All leaders are not managers.
Accountability
Manager is accountable for self and subordinates behaviour and performance.
Leaders have no well defined accountability.
Concern
A manager’s concern is organizational goals.
A leader’s concern is group goals and member’s satisfaction.
Followers
People follow manager by virtue of job description.
People follow them on voluntary basis.
Role continuation
A manager can continue in office till he performs his duties satisfactorily in congruence with organizational goals.
A leader can maintain his position only through day to day wishes of followers.
Sanctions
Manager has command over allocation and distribution of sanctions.
A leader has command over different sanctions and related task records. These sanctions are essentially of informal nature.
          


Experiences

Leader

Based on my experiences on my work environment, as i observed our Campus Director, although he was appointed as Campus Director by our president to manage our campus but still he showed us his great leadership, he always think for the development of our campus, he gives more consideration and chances to the faculty who was not able to do their part, although it was risky to his part, because he always think for his subordinates. Hes always look for any ideas that is helpful to our campus, and he always investigate reality, taking in the pertinent factors and analyzing them carefully. He always motivate us to as his subordinates to take our job seriously aiming to vision of our campus. Being a leader always think to the goals, members satisfaction,
and achieve control of themselves before they try to control others; can visualize a purpose and generate value in work; are imaginative, passionate, non-conforming risk-takers.


Manager

Management authority adheres by our administrative officer, she always follow on the what the rules in in the campus. Maintains low level of emotional attachment to her subordinates, always relate people to their role upon making decisions process. Always aim and focus on the results and processes rather than the people who is beyond it.
